One of my favorite things.

I love Voltaire.  Not the dead author/philosopher, but the living arteest.

I was pointed to this neat new thing by Taka, my kid.  I decided to make it available on my website (such as it
is) for all to enjoy.

This is neat.

One reason I like Second Life is that it’s possible to get the greatest “photos”.

Sermon

By using pose balls and animation overriders, you can really do a lot.  Very dramatic.  There are even
professional photographers there - they’ll make sure you’re beeeyouutiful.

One reason this is neat:  when I went to New Orleans a few years back, I got a picture of me taken in front of
Lafeyette Cemetery.  Ooh dramatic - no.  Because it was daytime, sunny, and I’m a boring looking white chick
with not much character.

Not so on SL.  I can be just about anything, anyone, anywhere.  I can set up the shot with plenty of time and even
set the time of day to sunset, sunrise, full day or night.

So I’ll never be a supermodel or a famous photographer, but I can play one on SL.

That’s it!

I’m missing the “bi” in my polar!

Figures.

Note:  I was kidding, but it turns out that ”unipolar” is an actual term for depression.  Ha!

Where’s my invite?

George Takei is getting married.

Maybe now we can see if the divorce rate for same-sex couples is similar to that of ”normal” couples.

(heh heh, normal what?)

For a while, same-sex unions were legal in Washington County, in Oregon.   It was repealed, but not before my sister and her partner were married.  It’s void now, but it was interesting to see how people reacted to it.  My dad was about like I would expect, I think he said something like, “I don’t know why they think it’s necessary, but whatever.”  This is from the man who treated her coming out like he would have treated a lingering terminal illness.  It took him a long time to really accept it, as much as he has.  He still doesn’t approve, but he doesn’t give her shit about it and has accepted her partner into the family pretty much.

A  few days ago, I saw an article about a billboard campaign in Britain that was pretty good.

Admongers in SL

Adzoo_meeting

Today I went to a meeting of a bunch of people who want to try to…discourage people from putting up invasive ads and selling small plots for ridiculous amounts.  Usually they get their price in order for the surrounding residents to get rid of said ads.

It was interesting - one thing I have to say, I was surprised by how ”normal” they all looked.  I was sort of
hoping for more variety in avatars.  Aside from one purple dragon, the avatars really could have been anyone
walking down the street in RL.  Hmm.

I guess that was really aside from the point, though.  The meeting was held to get people together to brain-
storm for ideas on how to educate proper residents and discourage admongers.  Since Linden Labs isn’t being
very helpful in this matter, they’ve decided to do what they can themselves.  All within the TOU, of course.

I was late getting there, but they were smart enough to keep a log, which can be found here.

One of the things that was brought up was having a blog for the group, which can be found here.

We talked about education - education newcomers to the dangers of the ad farmers, and how they can protect
themselves.  Also we discussed ways to get the word out about the group.  Freebies designed to promote the
ostracising of the baddies was one way.  People love free stuff, right? And if they get the point, that’s even better.  Some of those freebies will be structures for people to use to block or otherwise signify the location of an adspace that is adjacent to their land.  That sounds like fun – I’m going to build a cage that could be used to go around a 16m plot.

They decided to have a meeting every week, if possible.  I worry about momentum, people sometimes will be
very excited to get moving on something, but it can peter out before the goal is reached - especially if it takes
time.  Short attention spans, you know?  I’ve been guilty of that a time or two.  Lets hope it dies a natural death,
when the adfarm situation is under control.
